Patients Rights
Dear Patient,
Welcome to the Chaim Sheba Medical Center.
The staff of our center is committed to providing a
high quality, professional and caring service, and to
act in accordance with professional standards and
the bill of patient’s rights.
The patients rights
Reception of proper medical treatment – You have
the right to receive unconditional medical treatment and
professional, high quality care that will respect your beliefs,
cultural values and religious practices.
Consent to treatment – Your free consent
is a prerequisite for your treatment. You are
entitled to receive updated information about diagnosis, treatment,
risks, prognosis and side effects. You have the right to receive
information about alternative existing therapies, about declining
treatments, risks and prognosis. Your consent will be required
for every treatment, and in some cases you will also be asked to
give written consent; do not hesitate to ask clarifying questions.
You are entitled to withdraw your consent at any stage of the
treatment, and this will have no adverse affect on the relations
between you and those caring for you. Any consent you may
give to participate in research is subject to a separate agreement;
refusal to participate will in no way affect the medical treatment
you are receiving.
Confidentiality and privacy – No details about your
medical condition will be passed on to anyone without your
explicit consent, or in compliance with legal requirements.
You are entitled to the presence of another person, should
the conditions where you are being treated permit this.
Staff identity – You are entitled to receive information
about the role and identity of all those caring for you. Staff
members are required to wear identity tags.
Medical records – You are entitled to receive a copy of
your medical notes, in consultation with the medical records
department, following your release from hospital and in
compliance with legal requirements. In urgent cases (such
as the need for urgent consultation), department staff will
be able to provide copies of partial/selected materials from
the medical records.
Request for a second opinion – You have the right to seek
a second opinion from an external consultant; the medical
team will help provide the consultant and the patient with
the necessary information. Please contact the medical staff
to arrange this.
Appropriate continuation of treatment – A patient being
transferred from one medical professional to another, or
from one medical institution to another, is entitled to request
professional cooperation between them in order to ensure
appropriate continuation of treatment.
Visiting hours – You are entitled to receive visitors in any
department, subject to the department’s regulations; please
ask the staff for information.
Public applications – You are entitled to contact the
hospital’s public applications official with any comments/
questions/recommendations.
Along with your many rights, you are requested:
• To behave with respect to employees and to refrain from
any form of violence (verbal/physical).
• To provide complete and detailed information on your
health condition.
Wishing you and your family the best of health,
