The Gertner Institute for Health Policy and Epidemiology is a "Think Tank" for the Ministry of Health.  Our Board of Trustees includes four members of the Ministry of Health, including the Director General of the Ministry, two representatives of the private charity, two representatives of the Tel Aviv University (with which this institute is affiliated), and Prof. Shani, the founder and Director of the Institute.

 

The Institute consists of two divisions and auxiliary services. 

  1. Division of Epidemiology - four units
  2. Health Policy Division - five units. An additional unit for Medical Manpower Planning is now being established
  3. Auxiliary Services - Information & Computer Unit and Biostatistics Unit

Institute at a Glance    

 Director - Prof. Mordechai Shani

Professor Shani was director general of Sheba for more than 30 years, and served two terms as director general of the Israeli Ministry of Health. He has been central to the shaping of health care in Israel for decades. He was the architect of the 1994 healthcare bill which reformed Israel's health systems; and was a key player in the creation of Israel's Patients Bill of Rights.
